Bank Negara Malaysia Museum and Art Gallery
Journey With Me
Hi everyone! This is my first time writing blog and I appreciate your visit. First, let me introduce myself. My name is Beatrisyia, your one and only teller of tales. As for today, I want to tell you guys a story about me and my friends exploring Kuala Lumpur. So, shall I start my story?
The story began on 3rd September 2023, my friends and I went to the Bank Negara Malaysia Museum and Art Gallery located in Jalan Dato Onn, Kuala Lumpur. There were a lot of tourist buses mostly tourist from abroad for instance, tourist from China. It was on weekend so it’s no wonder there were so many tourists.
As we entered the building of the museum, we need to register our name and we were given a booklet as a directory to explore the gallery. We were not allowed to bring our bags in, only valuables are allowed to be brought in.
First off, we skipped the lower floor and start with the level one. On level one, they have three sections which are Bank Negara Malaysia Gallery, Economics Gallery and, Islamic Finance Gallery. We went to the Bank Negara Malaysia Gallery to start the adventure.
Look at the unique design featuring six distinct songket motifs that you can find in the Malaysian banknotes. (As a songket lover, I was in love with the design!)
After a while walking and exploring the Bank Negara Malaysia Gallery, we headed to the next section, the Islamic Finance Gallery.
I was impressed by neatness of the handwritten Quran from Uzbekistan in 1354! I wonder how can someone write that neat! 😮
Other contents that you can found in the Islamic Finance Gallery.
Moving on to the last section on level one, Economics Gallery.
A picture of Ain reading the information on the wall.
The Pocket Money Book with Kampung Boy cartoon illustration.
For someone who watched Kampung Boy in my childhood time, I was happy seeing this. I never knew this version of pocket money book existed.
After we finished exploring on level 1, we took the elevator to level 2, which contains the numismatics gallery.
On level 2, you can see biodata of a Central Bank of Malaysia.
This is one of the Bank Negara Malaysia's Collection, Banana Money Printer. The machine was used to print the Japanese Invasion Money (JIM) banknotes for use in Malaya in 1942-1945 before the Japanese surrendered to British.
Presented here are the images illustrating the transition of currency from its old form to the new.
Can you guess who will be the
next governor?

It is Ain!!!
Look! There was so much money from all around the world. The designs are unique and representing the unique characteristics of each nation.
As shown in the picture, these are the Malaysian's first series circulation banknotes. From the left is the old printing with old spelling, while the right side is new spelling. The theme of these banknotes is Geometrical Designs.
Next, they also have dry rubber exports coupons for every state in Malaya. For example, the biggest coupon and blue colour, it is for Kedah.

Phew. Writing the level 2 part was tiring. Now, moving on the last level, Level 3. On level 3, they have Art Gallery. The day I went to the museum, they had GERAK BAYANG: The Art of Storytelling exhibition. In this art exhibition, they mostly show about Wayang Kulit or in english it is called Shadow Puppet.
When I first enter the exhibition, they display this kind of art. Eventhough I don’t really understand arts but I enjoyed watching it.
Look at this art. This art called ‘Pak Dogol dan Dalang’. They told me to observe this art by look, imagine and feel without toching it. I was like, WHATTT?!?!?!?! I really don’t understand.
Now, I will show you guys a few pictures of Wayang Kulit arts related. I think this is the best part of the Art Gallery because the puppets are so pretty and really caught my attention. Let see the picture together.
Wow! Wayang Kulit from Thailand! That was my first time to see the Thailand’s Wayang Kulit.
I made my own puppet. I don’t even know what to name it and because of that I named it ‘entahla’.
Lastly, I will show you some of my favourite arts from the Art Gallery because they were so pleasing to see.
We have reached the end of the story. As a conclusion to this story, I enjoyed visiting this museum and art gallery and I will insert a few pictures of me and my friends.
